This has nothing to do with a museum. If the Santa Ynez Band wanted to build a museum, they could have built it over five years ago. The land does not have to be taken out of local and state jurisdiction and into “trust” for this museum to be built. Unfortunately, there have been numerous cases where land has been taken into trust for one reason, and then the use has changed without the input of the community. Because the land is in “trust”, the surrounding community has no input as to changes that are made to land use. This could mean more gambling on the 6.9 acres. This could mean chain stores, “box” stores such as Walmart or cigarette shops on the 6.9 and any other land that is placed in federal trust status. When the land goes out of local and state jurisdiction, you lose your rights. Do you think this is over reacting? Take the time to do your own research. Then decide. Do you want to take the chance?
