"With the growth in popularity of tribal gaming over the years, and the enlargement of the Chumash Casino on the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians' Reservation, the total number of daily visitors to the area has increased dramatically. With the increased number of visitors comes an increase in the criminal activity at both the Casino and the surrounding community . . . A review of the calls for service at the Casino over the last nine years documents some of the impacts. In 1994, the total activity at the Casino, including calls for service and reports written, was 25. Each year since 1994 the total activity has increased. In the year of 2003, the total activity at the Casino was 300. This is a 1,100% increase of activity during the last nine years at the Casino alone."
